A new year is about to begin!

As the teachers ready their classrooms for the 67th year of Coop, we look forward to the children and their parents returning!  Coop is a special place for children and their families!  Our small classes and adult to child ratio is superb!  Our parents want to be involved in their child's education and that makes Coop a special place for preschool children!

We offer classes for 2 year olds, 3 year olds, and 4 year olds.  Each day you will find parents working side by side with the classroom teachers.  The children are involved in the classroom activities.  Coop follows "The Creative Curriculum" when planning activities.  This year we begin using "Conscious Discipline" strategies in our classrooms.

Hibernating in Preschool!

Every year we end our winter unit with a hibernation day in the 4's class!  We turn our meeting area into a cave and we go on a bear hunt! And of course we must wear our PJ's when hibernating!  I have to say the day is always a great success!  Here are a few pictures from our day!

Cooperative Nursery School Open House!

Please visit the Cooperative Nursery School on Thursday February 21, 2013 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. or Friday February 22 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.  We will begin accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year on Tuesday February 19, 2013.

Learn about our unique preschool!  Our high level of parent involvement makes our Coop unique!  Coop provides a safe, secure, and engaging learning environment for our children!  Our program is enriched by the involvement of our parents, who bring to the classroom a wide range of cultural, educational, and artistic backgrounds.  The high level of parent involvement also facilitates a smoother transition from family life to the world of school!

 

 

Coop is dedicated to the cooperative concept of early education where teachers, parents, and children work together to create the best learning environment for each child to reach their own potential of emotional, intellectual, and social growth.  The teaching strategy used to reach our goal of responsiveness to individual learning is the Creative Curriculum by Diane Trister Dodge.  This curriculum concept seeks to balance teacher-planned and child-initiated learning, and to respond to the individual strengths, interests, needs, and learning styles of each child.

December 2012 in the 4's class!

What a great first semester we've had!  I know my blogs have been few this year and I promise to do better in 2013!  Here is a picture review of December!

And of course what would Coop be without our families!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Fall is in the air!

Living in Illinois means living through the interesting weather of our region.  The leaves are starting to turn their beautiful yellows, oranges, and reds!  There is 80 degree weather (like today) and 50 degree weather (predicted for tomorrow), rain, wind, thunderstorms, and shorter days.  The farmers are in the fields, though the harvest this year is not great due to the horrible drought of spring and summer.  The children are full of energy and counting the days until Halloween.  It's a busy and very fun time for preschoolers!

A great start!

The first month of school is almost behind us!  It's been a wonderful beginning!  We learned about each other, our families, our homes, and emotions!  We'll begin a journey into Fall next!  Today our class went on our first field trip of the year!  We visited a local park.  It was the perfect introduction to our exploration of Fall!  We went on the hunt for the elusive Beaver.  Though we didn't see the Beaver we did see evidence of a Beaver.  We explored the many large sculptures in the park, visited one of our student's garden plot, saw huge sunflowers, a windmill, and collected specimins that represented fall to us.  We'll explore our findings on Monday!  WELCOME FALL!

One More Week!!

Things are starting to get busy at Coop!  In one more week the halls and classrooms will once again be filled with the laughter of children!  On Monday and Tuesday the parents will be cleaning our classrooms until they shine!  The Teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms, lesson planning, and resting!  It's an exciting time!  Our two's and three's classes are full, and our four's has a few openings.  We're all looking forward to another great year!
